Case Study: Clacton Retail Park
The multiple roofing technologies and design flexibility offered by Euroclad’s
Elite Systems are demonstrated at Clacton Retail Park in Essex.
Euroclad supplied roofing and cladding solutions for retail park giants Tesco,
Pizza Hut and B&Q, adding variety to the development and showcasing
Euroclad’s product diversity and expertise. Elite Systems are fully integrated
and specifiable systems that offer flexible, environmentally friendly, noncombustible
solutions in a range to suit a plethora of different applications.
Built entirely by Britton Construction Ltd, the multi-million pound retail
development not only accommodates Tesco, B&Q and Pizza Hut, but also
Currys, KFC, and a Carphone Warehouse. Non-food retailing space equals
over 70,000 square feet whilst the supermarket occupies 75,000 sq feet. The
development also encompasses a 35-acre country park to the north.
Euroclad supplied Elite Systems roofing solutions suited to each unit. A
curved barrel vault Euroseam standing seam roof of 0.9mm stucco embossed
plain mill aluminium was specified for the Pizza Hut, whilst the Tesco store
was designed with a low-pitched standing seam roof. The building housing
B&Q was built using Elite Systems for both roof and walls.
As part of Euroclad’s Elite Systems, Euroseam standing seam roofing works
on the principle of zipping up rolled side laps that are then mechanically
zipped up over supporting halters. The low profile pan and unique 75mm upstand
means the roofing has excellent drainage whilst a lack of external
penetration of the sheet determines superb weatherability.
Pre-curved sheets, such as those used on the Pizza Hut building, can be
produced on site by firstly rollforming the straight Euroseam Profile and then
using mobile curving equipment to induce the radius, which eradicates
logistical issues and potential damage during transit. Euroseam can also be
rolled on site for longer lengths.
Superb design flexibility and onsite capabilities ensured that Euroclad was an
essential part of the supply chain at Clacton Retail Park.

Case Study: Queens Square, Crawley
Designed by LRK Associates the refurbished retail units of the Queens Square building were immediately let to fashion outlets and Costa Coffee. Euroclad’s part in the successful design was the production of an extended curved soffit, which forms a feature at each end of the building. Constructed from white Alpolic®/fr (aluminium composite material), the soffit is finished with a tailored bullnose, which forms the perimeter of the roof around the entire building. Installation of the impressive roofing was carried out by Industrial Construction Sussex.
Columns on all four elevations were faced with black,
granite effect ACM material with a finish of 80 percent gloss.
The columns were originally specified as black granite but
cost and weight issues factored in a change in the specification
to Alpolic®/fr, exclusively available from Euroclad.
The original design specified 30mm granite curved facings, weighing 81k/m2. In contrast, the Alpolic®/fr granite effect
panels weigh just 7.6k/m2, requiring significantly less steel
for the fixing grids.
Shoppers in Crawley are enjoying a stylish new retail zone, with eye-catching good looks that are thanks
to bespoke ACM fabrications from Euroclad. The new development is now a striking and contemporary
consumer-magnet, with custom-designed extended soffit and granite-effect pillars.
To recreate the appearance of granite, Euroclad formed 50mm rebates between panels, and finished with a filler strip
to conceal fixings. Alpolic®/fr panels from Euroclad are simple
to replace and have a long service life. Alpolic®/fr is available from Euroclad in a wide range of colours, granite or marble effect, as well as stainless steel, zinc, copper
and titanium finishes. The unique process used for coating the
panels ensures that the colours are entirely consistent
throughout and the material offers excellent flatness.
