Spacer Bar Systems

What is a Spacer Bar System?

eurobar_extra

Fundamental to any built-up metal roofing or cladding system is the spacer used to separate the outer weathering skin from the internal liner sheet. This stops the low-density insulation from being over compressed and allows flexible constructions accommodating almost any insulation depth. The spacer system is crucial to the thermal efficiency and stability of the roof or wall system, supporting the outer sheet and transferring external loads to the structural elements.

Euroclad continues to lead the built-up cladding industry with further product innovation in its spacer bar systems. Joining the existing Eurobar and Eurobar Extra systems is the new Eurobar Extra Mast, with excellent structural performance. The revolutionary new Eurobar Extra and Eurobar Extra Mast have been developed to meet the challenge created by the revisions to Part L of the Building Regulations that came into effect 6th April 2006. The enhanced systems, combined with existing Euroclad products, can accommodate increased construction depths and offer the stable performance needed for modern metal construction, while being compatible across most metal building applications.

Since the implementation of Building Regulations PartL2: 2001 'Conservation of Fuel and Power' the spacer is even more critical to the thermal efficiency and stability of the roofing system. With the requirements to make buildings more thermally efficient, so the insulation depths increase to meet the U-values. As a result the 'traditional' spacer may struggle to accommodate increased depths of insulation and could become unstable when dynamic loads are applied to the roof e.g. when loading sheets out during installation. Euroclad offer a range of spacer bar systems to accommodate any metal envelope construction, including Elite Systems, standing seam and secret-fix roofing, vertical and horizontal wall cladding or trapezoidal roofing systems.

STABILITY OF SPACER SYSTEMS

The MCRMA commissioned CERAM Laboratories to test all available spacer systems at various pitches. The results showed that all systems were fully stable, with limited deflection up to 200mm height, at which point deflection and vulnerability to sway became significant. Eurobar Extra with both the bracket and mast show considerable improvement in axial and lateral loading capability. And is the only system not requiring reinforcement above 200mm heights. Eurobar, Eurobar Extra and Eurobar Extra Mast spacer systems have all been structurally tested as an integral part of BBA Certified Systems using the highest bracket sizes.
